07-22-2010 Chase Log: northwestern MN 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago  
Well, this is sort of a non-chase log. I wish I had decided to go, but as is the case with a lot of Red River Valley/northwestern Minnesota events, the CAPE was pretty small. What the system lacked in CAPE, it made up in kinematics. This was enough to produce a tornado just north of Bemidji. I'm not sure I would have been there or somewhere farther south. Either way, this has become fairly typical of northwestern Minnesota. Low CAPE but decent kinematics.

I didnt really pay any attention to forecasting yesterday. But I was working just south and west of Bemidji and as the day went on i was watching the clouds and the low level clouds were flying straight north and even northwest a bit and above they came from more of a SW direction. SO i thought to myself if the sun would stay out and storms would develop i wouldnt doubt it there was a tornado warning or two. Cloud bases were quite low to.
